about

A new and improved mix and master of 'Woodpecker', from the album 'We Will Find the Words'.

Seeking fresh starts, Ross and Dan found themselves moving to an unreasonably expensive apartment in the city of Manchester. A grey and gloomy 2009, the recession was just starting to bite. Deciding to form Dead Scientists, they dreamed of writing concept songs to soundtrack a second Cold War of futuristic Soviet-style states.

Woodpecker came first. Written to a background of bleak winter weather, episodes of the X-Files and the sounds of Radiohead, Text and Neutral Milk Hotel.

The song went unfinished, but they couldn't let it go; an idea with potential that captured the excitement and energy of a new band with big ideas.

In 2020 they reformed and finished 'Woodpecker', a tribute to the Duga Radar within the oppressive boundaries of a torturous Soviet state. This remix and remaster is the band's definitive, final version that transformed this idea into their true vision.

lyrics

I’m stepping outside
We’ve been climbing these walls all night
Acetyl dreams fall apart through the holes in the back of your mind
When all hope falls apart I’ll be there holding on
You're my

Wasted words
That let you down
That let you down
These trembling hands
The board wire entwine
The noose anectine

It’s snowing outside
I know we’ve reached the end of the line
Modern neurotic dream
All these things that I’ve seen
There was calmness in my mind
If this world falls apart I’ll fucking laugh out loud
You're my

Wasted words
That let you down
That let you down
These trembling hands
The board wire entwine
The noose anectine

These scars aren’t forever
Constantine, come back to me
The moon out here is so pale
But you look upon it too
There’s another world
Another place I’ve seen
I know I’ll never leave
Constantine, my love
Come back to me
